Champion just announced that they’ve enhanced the Acana line of regional (regional to Alberta, CA) dog foods. From their press release, seems like the enhancements are about making the foods slightly lower on the glycemic scale, and higher in protein and palatability (though that’s not been a problem as far as we’ve seen). Summary of the changes: increased amounts of fresh meats (and reduction of meat meals), fruits and vegetables, fiber and chondroitin/glucosamine. They’ve changed the carbs to favor low-glycemic lentils over higher-glycemic potato. Watch for a change in packaging too. Products should be on the shelves in July.

We absolutely love how Acana uses regional ingredients. Brilliant! In fact, every time I read ingredient lists of Acana’s product line, I always walk away hungry!
