Steve’s Real Food turned a page in the pet food industry in the late 1990’s, and we have Steve Brown to thank for that.  Generations of dogs and cats have lived longer happier lives as a result of his relentless pursuit of understanding what makes dogs and cats thrive.  He has been a pioneer in natural pet nutrition, and the company now under the leadership of Nicole Lindsley continues to hold the bar for not only for standards in raw commercial pet food but also in education around natural pet nutrition.

Founder Bio: Steve Brown

Steve it seems was always driven by a deep interest in dogs. In the 1990’s he was involved in developing a new dog breed. He named it Charlee Bear, and subsequently designed the first low calorie dog treat and named that product after his new breed of dog (the treat of course is still very popular today). In the late 90’s he identified significant gaps in the nutritional quality of mainstream pet foods and began experimenting with natural diets for his dogs. Steve’s Real Food was launched in 1998 with the goal of providing pet owners with a reliable alternative that uses whole-food ingredients and minimizes processed components. Steve’s was the first commercially available frozen raw dog food, and it set the pet food industry on an entirely new course. His approach is grounded in research and practical application, ensuring that every product meets strict quality standards without unnecessary additives. He’s written influential books such as “See Spot Live Longer” and “Unlocking the Canine Ancestral Diet,” and has dedicated his career to researching and educating pet owners and veterinarians on optimal pet nutrition.
